St. Joseph Catholic School is a full-day school offering PreKindergarten 3 through 6th Grade.
St Joseph Catholic School accepts children of any race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin providing the parents and child agree to abide by the rules and regulations adopted by the school. Attending a Catholic school is a privilege, not a right. The principal can, at any time, withdraw any student subject to the procedure for resolution of disputes and conflicts.
For enrollment purposes, the age of the child on or before September 1st must be:
PreKindergarten 3 -- 3 Years of Age
PreKindergarten 4 -- 4 Years of Age
Kindergarten -- 5 Years of Age
First Grade -- 6 Years of Age
When necessary, students will be tested for placement in reading and/or math. St. Joseph School cannot accept children with extreme behavioral problems or special education needs, since, they require the attention of specifically trained personnel, and the school does not have the staff or facilities to provide diagnostic and remediation services for those students.
Young children must be toilet trained before they may be accepted. Though occasional accidents may be expected with youngsters, repeated evidence of incontinence will be cause for postponement of a student's enrollment.
HOMEWORK POLICY
Homework is assigned regularly and is monitored by all teachers. Homework is always based on material that has been taught in the classroom. Homework may be in the form of studying or the completion of a written assignment. The type and length of homework assignments depend on the teacher's method of instruction and the student's performance level. The purpose of homework is to review the day's class work, provide necessary practice, and to provide the opportunity to pursue special interest areas. A general guideline for the amount of homework a child should have is:
1st and 2nd Grades: 10-30 minutes per night
3rd and 4th Grades: 20-40 minutes per night
5th and 6th Grades: 50-60 minutes per night
Should a student frequently require more time than listed above, parents should contact the teacher to determine whether the child is having difficulty in meeting the expectations of the grade level and is in need of additional assistance. If an emergency prevents a student from completing a homework assignment, the parents should notify the teacher in writing so adjustments may be made.
No homework is assigned during the ITBS testing the week of Sept 17th.
Reading of library books and any other reading resources are strongly encouraged at all grade levels, in addition, to regularly assigned homework.
HEADINGS AND STUDENT PAPERS:
All papers handed in for a grade should have a heading. Only the grade specified paper may be used for class work. Torn out papers from a binder or composition book, etc., are not acceptable.
